Today we're announcing that Busbud has closed a $9 million Series A financing round, co-led by OMERS Ventures and Revolution Ventures, with Inovia Capital and Real Ventures also joining in. It's a good moment to look back at how we got here, and ahead at where we're going next.
From a basement to a real company
Busbud started the way a lot of small companies do: out of a personal problem. A backpacking trip through South America in 2011 made it obvious that booking a bus shouldn't be this hard, and the earliest version of the company ran out of a basement and a living room before it ever had an office.
What the funding is for
This round lets us do two things at once: keep improving the product and grow the team building it, and push into new markets and regions faster than we could on our own. Buses are already one of the greenest ways to travel, and getting more of that inventory online, with better information behind it, is still the core of what we're trying to do.
Thank you
None of this happens without the bus operators who partner with us, the travelers who've booked with Busbud along the way, and a team that's grown a lot since those basement days. We've also had real support from investors, advisors, and Montreal's startup community, which has felt more like family than a network.
There's still a long road ahead of us — more routes, more countries, more of the product we want to build. If any of that sounds interesting, we're hiring.
